Objectives : Meta-Cognitions Questionnaire (MCQ) is the most widely used instrument for measuring metacognition. The purpose of this study is to examine the psychometric properties of the Korean version of MCQ (K-MCQ) among Korean populations.
Methods : A sample of 92 volunteers completed self-report questionnaire containing 65-item MCQ. Exploratory principal component analysis was conducted to examine differences in responses on the K-MCQ between another 21 patients with schizophrenia and 21 normal controls.
Results : Exploratory principal component analysis revealed five factors as similar as original MCQ : Negative beliefs about uncontrollability and danger, Positive belief, Cognitive Uncertainty, Cognitive self-consciousness, Negative beliefs including themes of superstition, punishment and responsibility, which accounted for 49.1% of the total variance of the K-MCQ scale. The internal consistency index by Cronbach¡¯s ¥á of total scale and five domain subscales were all in acceptable range (0.77-0.94). In addition, Negative belief about uncontrollability and danger score for patients with schizophrenia was higher than that of normal controls.
Conclusion : The K-MCQ may be feasible, reliable, valid instrument to measure meta-cognition among Korean populations
